Aircel launches new affordable 3G Plans

Aircel has just announced brand new 3G plans at what are looking like very attractive prices. The plans starting at Rs. 7 for 50MB of data go right up to Rs. 997 for 10GB of  high speed data. With Aircel’s new offering of Pocket Internet Smart  , the company aims to “revolutionize the landscape of mobile internet“.

Aircel’s Pocket Internet Smart will offer 3G and 2G data on a single recharge and the plans will be device agnostic. The data limits have been set only on 3G data. What this means is that a user will be able to consume data at speeds varying from 3.6-7.2Mbps according to their plan after which  there is no limit on the amount of data being consumed at EDGE speeds. This is definitely an interesting move by Aircel and one which we hope other operators would introduce soon. The plans are not locked to a particular device and can be used across phones , tablets and even dongles. Prices might vary slightly across circles so you are recommended to contact Aircel Customer Care by dialing 121 from your phone for exact prices.

Nokia to sell-off its luxury phone brand Vertu

At the end of last year, Nokia was reportedly looking into selling Vertu to raise funds and help focus the company, which is still in transition. Now, the Financial Times says that the deal is nearing completion.
The purported buyer is Permira, a British private equity group, who are reportedly willing to shell out €200 million ($265 million) for the luxury phone maker. Neither Vertu nor Permira have confirmed the deal.
Another equity group, EQT, are also said to have been interested in Vertu, but according to the Financial Times these negotiations aren't going anywhere.
If you were hoping for a WP-powered Vertu phone, this is probably not good news. But considering the precious metal plated phones mostly ran S40 (aside a couple of Symbians), the luxury niche of Vertu doesn't really mesh very уевв with Nokia's micro&soft strategy.

Galaxy Ace Plus-First Look

Samsung has  introduced a new smartphone with 1 GHz mobile processor, 5 MP camera and Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread operating system.

Samsung has quietly introduced a new mid-range smartphone to replace its older Galaxy Ace Plus smartphone. The new Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus GT-S7500 has the potential to be a great device worth enjoying Android OS on.

The new Galaxy Ace Plus physically appears very similar to the Galaxy Ace and has the same grip based back panel. Instead of a block design, Samsung has added some curves to the device and it looks less blocky. Basically, Samsung has taken the same approach with Galaxy Ace Plus that HTC did with Wildfire S and Motorola did with Defy+ (Defy Plus)

Though it resembles Galaxy Ace, the new Galaxy Ace Plus arrives with a totally different model number GT-S7500. In terms of specifications, Samsung has certainly given it a decent bump.

This smartphone features a 3.65 inch touchscreen display with the same 320 x 480 pixel resolution and 158 pixels per inch density. With lower pixel density, the phone's screen appears almost the same as that of Galaxy Ace.

By default, the Galaxy Ace Plus ships with Android 2.3 Gingerbread update. On the other hand, HTC One V comes with Android 4.0 ICS with HTC Sense 4.0 user interface. The only compensation Samsung provides is TouchWiz 4.0 UI with UX LivePanels. Galaxy Ace Plus will definitely get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
The camera of this smartphone has been slightly improved for it can now record videos at 30 frames per second. Even the shutter sound is louder. The camera lens has been placed in the center of the back panel and the flash is under it.

In terms of music quality there is a slight improvement but only prolonged usage can confirm it. With the 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 mobile processor housed inside the 11.2 mm chassis, Galaxy Ace Plus features the same Adreno 200 GPU chip which was used in the Galaxy Ace.

Physical button count remains the same - power on/off button on the left and volume setting buttons on the right side of the bezel. On the top lies the 3.5 mm audio port and there is a micro USB charging port at the bottom.

Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus retails in the Indian market for Rs 15,500.

Get Ready Akash Tablet... Daksh tablet is here

The new tablet, named Attitude Daksha, has been launched in Kerala by Telmoco Development for Rs 5,399.

While Aakash tablet is still in trouble, the industry is churning out newer low cost tablets almost everyday. This time around, a Kerala based company, called Telmoco Development Labs, has launched a new tablet for just Rs 5,399.
Though the price of the tablet is much higher than Aakash tablet, its specification is much better than that of the government backed product. The tablet, named Attitude Daksha, is infact the cheapest Android 4.0 (ICS) product in the country currently.
The 7-inch Daksha features a capacitive 5 point touch screen with a 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor with 512 MB DDR3 RAM. It has a HDMI port, micro SD slot, 3.5 mm audio out, micro USB port and OTG connector for 3G dongle and RJ 45 cable (for connecting wired broadband connection).

Daksha is capable of streaming 1080p full HD videos and has dedicated 400 MHz GPU for advanced flash apps, interactive apps and full HD videos. Daksha is powered by 3,800 mAh li-Pol battery which gives a back up of over six hours with WiFi on, Telmoco said in a statement.
While other specification of the tablet is very similar to that of recently launched Micromax Funbook, but in terms of battery, it is better since it has a much bigger battery compared to 2800 mAH on Funbook. Though Daksha is cheaper by more than Rs 1000, Micromax tablet comes with a Photon plus dongle and 1 GB data free which is worth more than Rs 1,000. Other rivals to this tablet include HCL Metab U1 and iBerry's tablets.
"Even though the Indian media tablets market witnessed high decibel launches by the world's leading vendors, the tablet PC market in India is a niche market that is quickly picking up the pace in terms of adoption," said CR Nijesh, chairman and executive director, Telmoco while launching the tablet.
Telmoco Development labs is a company involved in electronics research and mobile technologies.
The tablet will initially be shipped to schools, professional institutions, and corporate houses and will be available to the public from May 15 this year.

HTC One X gets 1.28.720.10 OTA update in India

Today when I was playing around with the HTC One X , an OTA update popped up on the screen. This is the 1.28.720.10 update which was rolled out in Europe recently. This update is expected to fix the battery life woes of the Quad Core phone which is by far the best Android device money can buy at this point of time.Once you get this notification, you can download the update over 3G or WiFi and install it. It takes a while and you will be running on the latest version of software.

Seems like the kernel and baseband versions have changed indicating that the radio performance might have been tweaked to conserve battery.

RUMOUR: Nitendo Wii U COnsole might be running Android

This rumor somehow sounds logical, mainly because the Wii U console is a new concept and needs a successful platform bundled to make it a great product. Just like Sony Ericsson experimented Android O.S with their Xperia Play smartphone last year.

Android has now become popular in the games segment too, there are many high end games including games by popular developers like Gameloft, EA, glu, etc. So this will give Nintendo a simple chance to use the existing games in Google’s Play Store to market the product and also make special optimized games for the Wii U. This concept sounds really interesting and if it is true, I am really looking forward for this product to come out.

Google starts selling Galaxy Nexus from Google Play Store

The Galaxy Nexus is still one of the best Android smartphones out there, although we are closing in on six months since the device made its debut. As you probably know, this week Google has started selling the Nexus on its Play Store. Available for just $399.99, which is less than what Amazon and other retailers are charging for the phone, the Galaxy Nexus comes with the same winning hardware, but with tweaks in the software department.

Running the Android 4.0.4 “takju” build, the Nexus now comes with native Google Wallet support. Sure, Google’s payment service hasn’t been doing that great lately, with several safety issues reported and even a couple of worrying departures from the project’s managerial board, but the service still has a small but faithful fan base. Google has thrown in a $10 starting credit in the Google Wallet for all the Nexus devices, so it’s pretty obvious that the search giant is intending to push its mobile payment service forward at all costs.

On the other hand, if you don’t care about Google Wallet or if you, for some reason, prefer the international version of the build, you can easily and safely flash the “yakju” software package on the phone, available for the international unlocked version of the Nexus. Likewise, if you live outside the US and you want to give Google Wallet a quick spin (even though you won’t be able to actually use the service), you can flash the US “takju” build.

You might also want to flash the “takju” build even if you are from outside the US, to ensure you get the fastest updates. Google will probably push new updates first to the unlocked GNex it solds on its site. Another reason would be just to experiment – I am sure that there are plenty of enthusiasts that would try out “the other version” just for the sake of it.

All the factory images for Nexus phones can be found and downloaded at this link here, so those of you passionate about custom ROMs, software, firmware, and stuff like that should have something to keep you busy for a while.

Ultra Cheap Android Tablets in hte works

Android might support MIPS processors, which could lead to ultra cheap Android tablets.

MIPS processor based smartphones and tablets may soon be able to run Android apps, EETimes has reported. The website said that Android maker Google is expected to issue native developer kits with bundled GNU compiler for MIPS within weeks.
GNU compiler is meant for developing applications for a particular processor architecture. Currently, Android apps natively support only ARM processors.
It is to be noted here that MIPS processors cost a lot less than ARM processors and hence if Google goes with its decision as reported it will lead to the making of cheaper Android devices.

In India there is no tablet with MIPS technology. However, many, like Novo 7, are available through online retailers like eBay. Also, MIPS based tablets with Android 4.0 operating system will soon hit Indian markets at prices below Rs 5,000.
"Google has started to take notice of the volume shipments of MIPS-based Android tablets," said Amit Rohatgi, principal mobile architect at MIPS, speaking at the Linley Tech Mobile Conference.
About 1.8 million MIPS-based Android tablets have shipped to date, Rohatgi said. These are mainly low cost systems from Chinese manufacturers, powered by MIPS processor.
There are reports that MIPS is looking for buyers due to declining financial results. The architecture has a solid base in networking and set-top boxes, but has yet to gain a broad foothold in mobiles where ARM holds sway.
Code for running Android apps on MIPS already exists. Getting Google to bundle it all as part of its standard releases is expected to ease the sometimes tedious job of integrating all the software needed to support the architecture.
With this move by Google low cost smartphones and tablets based on Android will get a boost and there will be a further reduction in prices, which currently start at just below Rs 5,000 for smartphones.

Internation Version of Sony Xperia ion Launched in Taiwan

Sony had announced earlier this year that we can expect an international version of the Sony Xperia ion to come out in the summer. In a press conference in Taiwan, the company unveiled just that - the Sony Xperia ion LT28i (the AT&T version, which was exclusive until recently, is dubbed LT28at).
The phone is almost identical to the US carrier option - 4.6" 720p LCD screen backed by Mobile BRAVIA technology, 12MP camera with 1080p video capture, Snapdragon chipset with 1.5GHz dual-core processor, NFC and 16GB built-in memory (expandable with microSD cards). In other words, it's like a bigger Sony Xperia S, unfortunately including the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS at launch (with an ICS upgrade coming).

The only feature not on the list seems to be LTE - as 4G networks are still hard to come by outside the US, the Xperia ion relies on HSDPA.
Check out the new Sony smartphone on video:

So far the Sony Xperia ion LT28i is announced for Taiwan only (and only in black), but there's no official launch date or pricing info yet (rumors have it availability will come next month, though). Sony should make it available in other countries too, but we're yet to get more info on that.

Blackberry Curve 9320 spotted in the Wild,Might be a successor to the Curve 3G

We have seen the BlackBerry Curve 9320 before being handled by BGR.in in India and once again we have some more hands-on pictures, this time from Sohoa in Vietnam

The phone looks similar to the recently announced Curve 9220 but features a matte silver trim around the front edges which gives it a more upmarket look compared to the spartan 9220.

You also get some additional features over the Curve 9220. The camera has been upgraded from 2 megapixel to 3.2 megapixel and now has an LED flash. The 9320 also adds 3G HSPA connectivity that the 9220 lacks. Otherwise the two phones seem identical.
The Curve 9320 should be launched soon in India and other Asian markets such as Vietnam and Indonesia and probably even in the US on T-Mobile's network. For more images, click on the source link below.
