Airtel 4G LTE Tarrif plans announced for Kolkatta

As the Airtel 4G website went live few hours ago , the tariffs have also appeared on the site. The plans start from Rs.999 for 6GB of data and the top-end plan is Rs.1999 for 18GB of data. There is also a plan for Rs.1399 which gives you 9GB of free usage.  Initially , these plans will be available only over USB modems and will be available on both Prepaid and Postpaid. After you cross the free data quota , your speed will be throttled to 128 Kbps as per Fair Usage Policy.

Here is the list of 4G LTE Plans from Airtel. The breakfree plan is the cheapest one offering 6GB of data at Rs.999. We feel it’s a great price point for offering 4G services.

Although 18GB is a lot of data offered on the Breakfree Ultra plan, at a speed of approximately 40 Mbps you can download 18GB of data in just one hour ! Let me tell you wireless data is not cheap across the world and these tariffs from Airtel has actually on par or cheaper with global operators offering 4G services. But the big question is will the speeds be consistent ??

Airtel to offer 4G Services in Kolkatta next Month

Bharti Airtel is all set to launch 4G services in India later this month in Kolkata. Bharti Airtel’s CEO Sanjay Kapoor confirmed it in GSMA event in New Delhi. It would also be the first operator in the country to launch 4G services. It is based on 4G LTE-TDD technology that would offer speeds up to 100 Mbps.

The company had won 20 Mhz TDD of Broadband Wireless Access spectrum (BWA) in the 2.3 GHz frequency band in 4 telecom circles including, Kolkata, Maharashtra, Punjab and Karnataka in 2010.

Airtel has appointed China’s ZTE Corporation to plan, design, supply and deploy its 4G network in Kolkata. It appointed Nokia Siemens Networks for building and operating 4G services in the Maharashtra circle last month. It also plans to launch 4G services in Pune in Maharashtra, Chandigarh in Punjab and Bangalore in Karnataka soon.
