Wanna buy a Tablet with 3G .. Think again...

The price difference between a 3G and WiFi-only tablet is approximately Rs 7,000 in top end tablets, but do you really need 3G on your tablet?

When buying a tablet most people look for a built in 3G feature, however, since there is a great price difference between the WiFi-only version and the 3G version, approximately Rs 7,000 in the case of top of the line tablets, one needs to question the rationale of buying the 3G model.

Price difference

Sony S tablet, for example, costs Rs 29,999 when you get a 3G version, but only Rs 22,999 when you buy an only-WiFi model. In case of Apple iPad 2 the difference is bigger: the 64 GB WiFi+3G model costs Rs 44,900 vs the WiFi-only one costing Rs 36,500, with a difference of Rs 8,400. The difference in the 16 GB version is the same. Acer also has two different versions of its Iconia tablet, though only the WiFi tablet is widely available.

Buy a smartphone instead

Most of us do not use tablets for calling, but we do consume data, or do some video chat and that needs either 3G or WiFi. Since while traveling you do not get WiFi, people argue that 3G is a must. Indeed it is, however, it need not be on your tablet. Many tablet users also own a smartphone, which often comes with WiFi tethering (hotspot) feature, making it a WiFi router, and you can share the 3G connection with your tablet.

Other options

However, if you do not have a smartphone, you can buy one with the Rs 7,000 or more that you save by buying the WiFi version. There are many Android phones that you can choose for less than Rs 10,000, including Samsung Galaxy Y and Pop, and Motorola Fire, LG optimus Net, and many other models from Indian handset makers.
This way you will not only upgrade your phone but will also have to manage just one 3G connection for all your devices. Moreover, if you already have a smartphone but it doesn't support a WiFi hotspot feature, you can go for a 3G WiFi dongle which cost in the range of Rs 3,500 to Rs 4,500 and you will be able to use it for your laptop, PC, smartphone and tablet.

What about affordable tablets?

In case of affordable tablets the story is slightly different, as the cost difference between 3G and WiFi-only tablets is not that big. Though there is no tablet with 3G and WiFi only versions, if you compare tablets with the same specifications, but with or without 3G, the feature difference comes out to be close to Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,000.
But since the most basic WiFi-only tablets support 3G dongles, you will have the option of choosing CDMA and GSM dongles, both of which have their own benefits. While CDMA ones are cheaper (both in terms of price and tariff), and also offer coverage in more cities compared to GSM 3G dongles, their speeds are less than half at 3.1 Mbps compared to 7.2 Mbps offered by GSM ones.
So, even in case of affordable tablets you will have a wider choice if you choose the WiFi-only model. However, here the difference is little so you can buy the 3G versions since you will not have to carry a separate dongle. Moreover, you can also create a hotspot with these tablets for connecting your PC or laptop.

Apple new iPad ,Tablet of flaws...

The tablet is reported to have several flaws which may keep potential buyers at bay.

Apple, the California based computer and mobile equipment manufacturer, seems to be having a tough time with its New iPad tablet. The tablet, in which many flaws have been reported in the past few days, is now identified with another problem.
According to reports, the New iPad continues to charge the battery for almost an hour even after the device prompts the user about the battery being fully charged.

According to Dr. Raymond M. Soneira of DisplayMate, which is a renowned display testing company, the battery on the New iPad does "not actually reach full charge when 100 per cent is shown and need up to an extra hour before the charging actually stops". He claims that the battery gets fully recharge around one hour after the device prompts users of battery getting fully recharged.
However, Apple is yet to come out with a reply that whether it is because of a software bug or a hardware problem.
The New iPad is already having a bad reputation due to its more than average battery charging time and this newly raised concern may keep some potential users from buying it.
The New iPad comes with Retina Display and better hardware than its predecessors. Apple has even managed to sell about three million units of the tablet in eleven different countries within first three days of launch. The new Apple iPad comes with 9.7-inch touchscreen Retina Display supporting higher resolution 2048x1536 pixel resolution. The tablet is slightly thicker and bit heavier than its predecessor. This tablet houses Apple A5X mobile processor and features a better 5 megapixel camera at the back for recording full HD video.
Apple's New iPad, which was introduced by the company on March 7 in USA, is now available in India for Rs 36,799 through as Indian online retailer Tradus.in who has listed the new iPad 16 GB, WiFi model for Rs 36,799 after a discount of Rs 3,191.

iTunes Movie Trailers app gets Retina display support for the new iPad

With the amount of money going down on the table, it’s no surprise that proud new owners of the latest iPad will want to squeeze every ounce of goodness out the new features it brings to the party, namely that all important Retina display.

Well for the movie buffs and trailer junkies out there, the iTunes Movie Trailers app has just been upgraded to version 1.1, which adds Retina display support for the new iPad.

Of course in its current form, the iTunes Movie Trailer app is only available to US-based iTunes accounts, so iPad 3 users elsewhere in the world will still have to find other means to get the best out of the display.

With the bandwidth requirements HD (and in this case), higher than HD video garner, it’s probably wise to recommend that you stream trailers whilst on WiFi only, or you might find that you hit your LTE data quota mighty quickly. Follow the source link to find the app on iTunes and happy viewing.

Apple sold 3 Million iPad`s in 3 days

Apple just announced that it has sold 3 million iPad since its launch on Friday , March 16th. The new iPad features a new Retina display alongside an improved A5x chip with quadcore graphics. LTE capabilities are also included in this 3rd generation model.

“The new iPad is a blockbuster with three million sold―the strongest iPad launch yet,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “Customers are loving the incredible new features of iPad, including the stunning Retina display, and we can’t wait to get it into the hands of even more customers around the world this Friday.”
The new iPad is currently available in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Switzerland, UK with 24 more countries being added to the list starting March 23rd.

New iPad feels hotter than the old gen iPad

The new iPad has double the GPU cores count of the iPad 2 model and Apple had to increase the battery to handle the increased power usage. However, the increased power consumption isn’t the only problem that the extra GPU power creates – it also produces more heat and causes the new iPad to run hotter than its predecessor.
Many users reported that the new iPad feels hotter, but Tweakers.net brought out a thermal camera to get exact numbers.
They ran GLBenchmark – a 3D benchmark – for five minutes and took a measurement of the hottest point on the tablet. The bright spot in the thermal image is easy to see – that’s where the Apple A5X chipset is located.
The hottest point on the new iPad measured 33.6°C (92.5°F), while the iPad 2 kept things cooler at 28.3°C (82.9°F). That’s a difference of just over 5°C and is noticeable but not burning hot.
Also, GLBenchmark is about the worst case scenario for the new iPad – it stresses the powerful but hungry SGX543MP4 GPU. Under normal operation (that is anything other than 3D gaming), the new iPad should run about as cool as its predecessor
